Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do you accept insurance for therapy services?

We don’t work directly with insurance companies, which means that payment for services is due at the time of your visit. If you have an HMO and prefer not to pay out of pocket, we recommend finding a provider within your network.

If you have a PPO plan, you’ll also pay for services upfront. However, most PPO plans will cover a portion of the cost for out-of-network care. If you choose to use your PPO benefits, we have partnered with Mentaya to help with the process. Please see our Mentaya page for more information.

How do I choose the best therapist for me?

This is one of the most important questions that many of our clients have. There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this.

What we would encourage is to try out the therapist for a few sessions. See if it's a good fit.

Remember that if it is not a good fit, that does not mean that you are a bad client or that the therapist is a bad therapist! It just means that it was not a good fit!

Also remember that the sessions are for YOU. Your comfort is important. So, if you do not feel heard, or comfortable by your therapist, it is ok to share that! If you feel like your therapist is not hearing you, or if you do not feel comfortable expressing that to your therapist, please reach out to the co-owners at drchisato.kindfulplace@gmail.com or ligia.kindfulplace@gmail.com. We are here to support you.

What is the difference between individual therapy and individual consultation if we are talking about myself?

Think of individual consultation as focused on skill building. For example, if you meet with a therapist about feeling stressed out, individual consultation would focus on what you can do in certain moments. It may involve exploring certain situations and discussing what could be done differently, and practicing that skill.

For individual therapy, the same situation may entail exploring the reasons for those struggles, possibly connecting that experience to our past experiences and processing feelings.

Another example: Let's say that you have trauma, which causes difficulty sleeping, trusting others, communicating, etc.

Individual consultation could look like practicing communication, discussing ways of building trust, sleep hygiene and more.

Individual therapy could look like exploring the trauma, processing feelings around the trauma, exploring feelings around trust and more.

What is your cancellation policy?

We believe that your time and our staff's time is important. We also understand that life happens.

Due to this, we ask for at least a 72 hour notice for cancellations.

If this is not possible, you will be charged for half of your session amount. For example, if you pay $150 for a chat for 1 with an unlicensed clinician, you would be charged $75 for the late cancellation or no show.
